We would like to welcome you to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church website!  Over the last few months we have discussed what we would like our web presence to present to vistors as well as members.  Functions and content have been discussed in large and small groups, formal and informal gatherings.  The overriding request is that our presence be inviting, usable, and most of all, fresh.

We hope that we are able to meet this challenge forthright as a group, a family, a congregation, and part of the body of Christ, our Risen Lord!  Please continue reading this section for a more detailed explaination of this site and how you are a intricate part of it!

Using the new Faith Lutheran webspace!

  • Overview

The first websites, actually FELC's first website, were designed to be billboards.  They were designed by one     person.  The better of these sites used ideas and insight from many people, but, in the end, one person had the     passwords and the knowledge and controlled the content.  This was an average system, but had some                 inherent flaws.

Personalities of webmasters could become a stubbling block.  They held the keys to the site and were required     to  "upload" data for updates, etc.  If the desires of the content creators were different from the webmasters, it     could cause issues. More likely senarios were the person with the skills to update the website could not get           content from those with the information or those controlling the website were not avaialable to update the             content when it was available.

    Enter web 2.0!

The site we plan on using with Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church is based on open content, multiple editors and     publishers, and the ability for anyone to submit information for inclusion on the site!  This type of technology is         generally referred to as Web 2.0.  It is not a upgrade required by users of the technology but more a upgrade of     the way we approach it.  OUr site is based on software, written by many, many talented programmers from             around the world, that believe simple-to-use technology and the ability to communicate ideas should not cost a     fortune and built JOOMLA, the underlying software of our site, under a free license agreement.  We use the         software for free, programmers can download the "source code" and modify or enhance this code as long as     they agree that their enhancements are offered to the community under the same free license.

To this end, I have created a "framework" that the community of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and our             extended friends and associates can use.  Its eventual success or failure will be based on how we work as a     cohesive group, take responsibility, and work together to proclaim the Good News and serve Jesus Christ, our     Risen Lord!

Below is information and how-to's of publishing to the site. Please feel free to contact Susan or Myself with any     questions or problems you may have in using this site.

    In Christ's name,

    Rob Dickenson
